What is ETISA and what do you need to know before traveling
As the allure of European destinations continues to captivate travelers worldwide, it’s essential to stay informed about evolving entry requirements. One significant change on the horizon is the introduction of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). At Songs in the Sails Yacht Charters, we prioritize ensuring our clients have seamless and memorable journeys. Understanding ETIAS is crucial for anyone planning to explore Europe’s coastal gems aboard our luxurious yachts.
NOTE: ETIAS is currently not in operation and no applications are collected at this point. It is due to start 6 months after EES.
What is ETIAS?
ETIAS is a new travel authorization system implemented by the European Union to enhance security and streamline entry processes for travelers from visa-exempt countries. It’s not a visa but a mandatory authorization that grants permission to enter 30 European countries for short-term stays. This system is designed to pre-screen travelers to identify potential security risks before they arrive in Europe.

- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic

How to Apply for ETIAS
The application process for ETIAS is straightforward and designed for user convenience:
- Online Application: Applicants will complete an online form requiring personal information, travel details, and background questions related to security.
- Required Documents: A valid biometric passport from a visa-exempt country is necessary. Ensure your passport remains valid for the duration of your intended stay. New requirements to travel to Europe
- Fee: A fee of €7 applies to applicants aged between 18 and 70. Applicants under 18 or over 70 are exempt from this fee but must still obtain authorization.
- Processing Time: Most applications are processed within minutes. However, it’s advisable to apply at least several days before your planned departure to account for any unforeseen delays.
- Validity: Once approved, ETIAS authorization is valid for three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. This allows for multiple entries into the participating countries during its validity. New requirements to travel to Europe
Exceptions and Special Cases
Certain travelers may be exempt from the ETIAS requirement:
- EU Residents: If you hold a residence permit or card issued by any of the ETIAS-participating countries, you do not need an ETIAS authorization. New requirements to travel to Europe
- Specific Groups: Recognized refugees, stateless persons, and students on school trips from visa-required countries may also be exempt under specific conditions. It’s essential to verify your status before traveling.
