Greek Easter is one of the biggest celebrations in Greece, filled with a lot of unique traditions.

It is an ideal time of the season –weather warming up, calm seas, spring in full bloom, vibrating atmosphere, and lower charter rates. Guests onboard can experience the magic of Greek Easter.

We have all seen our Greek neighbors roasting a lamb on a spit – cracking the red eggs, dancing, and singing.

Each day is different during holy week. The atmosphere is amazing – on each island in the evening, you will hear the church services – the bells tolling, and the islands are full of energy.

On Good Friday, the candlelit funeral procession takes place in every church around 20.00 h. The procession is with the Epitaph and takes place outside, with everyone holding candles. On some of the islands, all the Epitaphs will meet in the quaint town squares.

On the night of Holy Saturday, the atmosphere becomes really festive, and the sky is lit with fireworks. The restaurants are closed and open up after midnight, and it’s time for the Greek Easter egg cracking tradition, where each person picks an egg and clinks it against the egg of someone else. Together, the participants say to each other: “Christ has risen!”

Easter Sunday is the traditional spit-roasted lamb of Greek Easter. The aroma flows on all the streets – the music and singing can be heard everywhere.
